Staph Infection | Chiefs' McCluster Cleared Of MRSA But Will Miss Game At Oakland

McCluster suffered a small cut in his ankle during last week’s win at Washington, where he returned punts for a club-record 177 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown. After practice on Wednesday, the ankle became swollen, and it did not respond to an initial treatment that included a swab on the infection site and antibiotics.

Chiefs physician Cris Barnthouse performed a procedure on Thursday that re-opened and cleaned the wound, and McCluster was put on IV antibiotics. McCluster was released from the hospital Friday, and on Saturday he was cleared of any signs of MRSA — an antibiotic-resistant staph infection that has affected at least three members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season.
